Slightly too long ?

STENTS THAT ARE SLIGHTLY TOO LONG

(at the Beginning of the procedure)

a)   SIGN : The free end of the stent rubs against the floor of the nasal cavity while at the same time the anchoring plug remains above the punctum .

b)  RISK : Premature expulsion risk IF at the end of the procedure one tries to force the Masterka in place  (see : ''Poorly positionned'').

            c)   WHAT TO DO : Dont remove the Masterka !

-1) While holding the fixation plug firmly against the eyelid, withdraw the guide/introducer slightly by just a milimeter or two;

-2) Release the fixation head;

-3) Push the Masterka back into the lacrimal duct by one or two milimeters;

-4) Redo steps ''1-2-3'' until the fixation head finally makes contact with the punctum;

-5) Confirm proper positioning by repeating the metal-to-metal contact procedure;

-6) Resume the calssical technique of lacrimal intubation
